Green Pepper…..

So, when no one was looking, I took a small bite of green pepper tonight. Actually, I took two. I did ALMOST spit out the second bite but kept it down despite how bitter it was. Go ahead and laugh if you must but you have no idea what an accomplishment that was. It’s not that I didn’t know what it was going to taste like, I think I was just reaffirming what I remembered it tasting like. It ended up being more bitter than I remembered and the taste lingered on my tongue for the next 45 minutes until I ate dinner. Still, it wasn’t as agonizing an experience as I thought it might be and I was shocked that I actually felt I could take another bite. People often think that I just need to try more foods to get a taste for them. What they fail to realize is that in my lifetime I’ve tried most foods and have a distinct recollection of what most everything tastes like. I even get a hint of the taste in my mouth if I think about it. So, it’s not that I don’t want to try new foods, it’s just that I didn’t like them the first time I tried them, or the second, or the tenth. Still, every once in a rare while I decide to see if anything’s changed. Tonight I’d have to say NO. Oh well, on with life….
