1-24-2010 Week in Review

First of all, this is our song of the week.  It is stuck in all of our heads….I know…you either love it or you don’t, but just in case you love it, here’s the video…..

Monday = Martin Luther King, Jr Day so the kids were home from school.  YEAH!  Because I, for some strange reason, did not sleep a WINK last night!!  I think maybe I slipped in 2 hours at most…..uuggghhh.  Anyway, Corben was off with my mom and the girls slept in so it was a quiet morning….aaaahhhhh…..until the SQUIRRELS started up in the attic!!  I hate squirrels.  They will be finding a new home soon….that’s all I have to say….

ANYWAY, I spent the morning working on photos and cleaning up.  Then my wonderful SIL, Heather, came over with her beautiful children to cut Ella’s hair.  My little Ella has VERY thin hair.  It’s a beautiful color and very long but hardly there!  There are several under layers that have never even grown in since birth and to make it that much worse, Sylvie pulls Ella’s hair out in handfuls almost weekly.  We’ve worked really hard to stop Sylvie but Ella still has several large bald spots, short tufts of hair where it’s started to grow back in, and areas with different lengths.  I decided it was time to give it a good cut.  She’s never had more than a quarter of an inch off since she was born (except her bangs).  I’ve always loved how it hangs around her face but her wispy hair always looks unkempt.  So, here are the befores……

….the durings….

…and the Afters!! (After all the time sitting she wouldn’t stand still!)

DSC_7111DSC_7114

Yeah, Heather!! Thanks SO SO much!!

Sylvie wanted to get in on the hype and in truth she has NEVER EVER EVER, in her two and a half years, had scissors come anywhere near her hair…..I have rules about such things….

Anyway, she hopped up in the chair so Heather just barely evened out the edges and did the tiniest bit of thinning in the back so the curls hung better.

Afterwards, Sylvie INSISTED that I take her picture, too.  SHE held still.  Isn’t she ADORABLE??!!

Afterwards, my mom came over with my niece and nephew.  They’re going to be hanging out with us a lot this week so I’m sure we’ll get some fun pictures!

So….THEN….Ryan calls and says he won’t be home after work….he’s always doing extra jobs and I’m so thankful, I just hate that he has to work so much.  Anyway, when he said he wasn’t going to be home I laughed and told my mom that it’s a good thing I trust him so much because with all these last minute after work side jobs a girl could get really suspicious.  Me?  I’m usually mildly oblivious.

Ryan didn’t get home until almost 10:30.  We chatted some, ate a late late dinner and then I see the case on the counter.  Ryan went by his dad’s and borrowed a medium format camera for me to try out.  (It’s one of the cameras we’ll be working with in my photo class.  It makes a 2.5in by 2.5in negative.)  I was so excited!  No wonder you were out so late!  We talk about the camera for a bit and then…..he hands me this weird weight and asks if I know what it is.  Well, it’s a weight.  He calls it a ballast.  Then I notice a scope looking thing on the counter.  What’s that?  Oh, it’s a telescope scope a guy was selling on Craigslist for a great price so I had to grab it.  But we don’t even have a big telescope, I laugh.  I got a good deal on a small eyepiece, too he says.  Some of you may have caught on at this point to what Ryan was REALLY doing this evening but NOT ME….clueless.  Thought he spent all night buying bits and pieces….  He then tells me about going to this astronomers house and looking through his big scopes.  I was so jealous! I told him that next time he wants to run out and pick up cool things for me to TAKE ME!  He then starts bragging about seeing nebulas and star clusters and tells me it’s the most beautiful night.  He insists I go look.  I peek out the door in my socks and light sweater….yep, it’s beautiful…and cold.  He walks outside and says for me to put shoes one….(I’m so clueless)….I stand on the porch and peek around the roof and the stars.  Beautiful….but cold.  I start to head back in when….I see a shadow of a box by the car….I suddenly realize that I MIGHT be clueless and should probably put on my shoes.  I try not to start jumping up and down as I walk outside all bundled up to see my new 10 inch Telescope!!!!!!  Now, I don’t mean 10 inches LONG…I mean with a 10 inch DIAMETER!!  This thing is almost 5 feet tall!!

So, we spend the next several hours staring at the stars and the surprise METEOR SHOWER!!  (Which, by the way, was North of us and made the news - http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/01/22/meteorite-crashes-virginia-doctors-office/?test=latestnews) It was amazing.  I actually saw a Nebula!!  A NEBULA!!  I can’t wait until I can get some higher magnification eyepieces so we can start seeing Saturn’s rings!!

So, now I can’t wait to have all our friends over for Family Nights at our house!!  I think every kid (and grownup)  should see this kind of stuff!!DSC_7125

My hubby Rocks!! (even in his redneck flannel…)

Tuesday – 4 toddlers…..2 - 3 year olds, 1 - 2 year old, and 1 - 1 year old…..

So we start off with the BEST PLAYDOUGH RECIPE EVER.

This is a recipe I found when Dade was a baby and it is, hands down, the best I’ve ever found (and I have tried too many too count).  It’s perfectly smooth, not too salty, never sticky, and smells fabulous!

Kool-Aid Play dough

2 1/2 cups Flour

1/2 cup Salt

2 packets Unsweetened Drink Mix

(I love grape, cherry, strawberry, etc. – Look for ones that give good color!)

2 cups Boiling water

3 Tbs Vegetable oil

Mix dry ingredients then add boiling water and vegetable oil.  Mix with a spoon.  When it’s  a bit cooler (only takes a minute or two) start hand kneading it.  You can wait until it’s cooled but I prefer to do it warm so it mixes better.  This play dough will last several months in a Ziploc bag or Tupperware container and it smells Wonderful!!

DSC_7134DSC_7131  (Check out Ella’s cute bob today…) The kids played so well all day.   It was great!

We pulled the telescope out again to show the boys.  Corben was flipping out when we took a look at the moon.  It was AMAZING!!  I’ve never seen such detail.  It’s supposed to rain all this week but Ryan’s ordering new eyepieces so we can see more detail and hopefully they’ll get here by the time the weather clears.  I’m so excited!

Wednesday, they came over again to play.  The girls were ecstatic & with the good weather they got some good outside time! YEAH!

Wednesday night I headed back out to my photography class.  I really do enjoy learning and I have several friends in my class this time so I’ve had to work extra hard at not getting rowdy. LOL  Here’s my weekly unauthorized picture of Tara….

Thursday I was very productive….

Thursday afternoon we were rushing around to try to get Dade a ride to his youth Temple trip.  It somehow was scheduled at the same time as my Women’s Relief Society activity but we were blessed to have someone offer to help and drive him there and back.  Thanks!  Ryan was working super late tonight so I headed out with the kids in the rain to learn about food storage and how to cook it.  I actually ate a whole wheat pancake with apples in it (pureed) and a whole wheat oatmeal choc chip cookie!  Don’t laugh, that’s a big deal!

Friday I have again been productive….  Why does this always happen to me at the END of the week.  I get in the groove of things then WHAM! there’s the weekend and the house turns into a wreak and we’re all going in different directions and by the time Monday rolls back around I’m exhausted and have no motivation.  Oh well, anyway….here’s the girls playing in play dough.

At School on Friday Dade participated in a CO2 Car Race.  They spent the last few weeks making their cars and spent the day racing them in class.  Dade’s came in FIRST PLACE!!  Way to go, Dade!!

Once everyone was home, I sent Dade off on a campout.  I hooked him up with all the warm gear we could find.  Now, if only he’ll use it…..

Saturday was PICTURE DAY again.  I have to say I’ve been enjoying the slow in business.  Four photo shoots a week was Killing me!

Dade went straight from his campout to his Basketball game.  When I asked how they did he and my mom just started laughing.  Apparently they were SO BAD that the officials finally turned off the score board and said they were just playing for fun!!  Dade, however, did score at least once.  Go Dade!  My mom dropped Dade off at home and picked Corben up for a sleep over with Fama.  We’re so blessed to have here around us all the time!

Sunday I wasn’t feeling very well but headed out to church anyway.  I’ve got responsibilities, ya know!  Came home and SLEPT!!  That Never happens.  I even took some time and read a book…will wonders never cease.  Well, off to experience next week!!

Ok can you give me recipes from your food storage class? AND we have a little astronomer here that would LOVE to get invited up to your house to play with your telescope. Ours is smaller but has the computerized directional thingy thing thats kinda cool.
