First,
Second, we’re going back in time a bit to pics I forgot…
Here’s Dade during Spirit Week on Wacky Wednesday…yes, he has red hair and his Sunday best on backwards. In case you are unaware…red hair spray does NOT come out of silk ties.
This is super Ella from last Wednesday when I took them both to church while Corben was at scouts. Ella was actually balancing the ball on her head but my camera kept missing it (silly phone camera…). She’s really athletic.
Okay, now we’re caught up.
You know it’s Monday when it starts like this….
Actually, it started with us actually getting out the door to school early and the phone ringing just as I was going out. It was Corben’s teacher informing me that he didn’t have a permission slip signed for Corben for the field trip today. He offered to meet me in carpool to have me fill it out but I figured correctly that it was just in Corben’s backpack. So, while I filled out the slip, Corben packed his lunch that he’d almost forgotten. Put us about 5 minutes or so behind. As we pulled up towards the school I saw a pillar of black smoke and joked that it must be the bus for Corben’s field trip (I’ve seen more than one putting out smoke like that) but NO…there was a CAR ON FIRE in the carpool lane!! And not just on fire…ENGULFED in FLAMES! Well, as least the entire back half of it. How thankful was I at that moment to have been running behind! Thank you, Mr. C!! They had us drop the kids at the far end of the school and had groups out safely on the playground. By the time I got through the chaos of figuring out where to let Corben out of the car and making sure he was safe, the flames were out. I did drive back around and caught this quick pic with my cell. Not nearly as dramatic as when I’d first gone by, but it’ll do.
Corben’s field trip was to a local park and lake where he caught several NEWTS…he was very excited. I was at home taking pictures of HUGE birds swooping over my house…
Yet another Ella skill….thank you, Yo Gabba Gabba…
Tuesday started out with Surgery #2! It seems that some things didn’t heal quite right in Dade’s nose so they had to go back in to fix it up. He was even more nervous this time than last but did a great job! I personally think he’s just trying to start up a collection of pictures of him in hospital beds…
The girls got to spend the day with Aunt Jessica & cousins and, as you can see, were worn clean out….they only lasted a minute in the car before they crashed.
As you can see, some looks just seem to come back around in style again and again…we’re hoping this one will be done for soon!!
Pause here to add: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!! WE LOVE YOU!!
Corben stayed up much of the night finishing his AG diorama. Despite the look on his face he was super excited to take it in. As he should be, he put a ton of work into that thing!
Did I mention Ella is talented?? Here’s a picture she drew last week. It’s Me and Sylvie at the beach…can’t you tell??
Well, then she came in and asked me to come and see THIS!! She’s been getting really creative on her block building lately, to the point where I haven’t been taking pictures because I actually thought Ryan was building them but he claims that isn’t so. Anyway, THIS is what I found today!!
Yes, she built that with just her skills and the blocks – no glue, gum, or velcro. So, I was a bit amazed and confused until she let me in on her ingenious discovery…if you lick them, they stick together. Who knew? Anyway, try it, it’s not as easy as she made it sound. I was not very successful! Apparently she has super spit, too.
Then a SCREAM came from the back deck and Sylvie was in a panic. I was confused as Ella was not close enough to Sylvie to be causing the disturbance. Dade snatched her up and listened as she explained how the green bug with black stripes bit her on her foot! Sure enough, right between her toes was a yellow jacket sting. She had seen it coming near her on the deck and had stepped on it with her bare feet! I think she learned a valuable lesson.
She claims that lollipops, despite my endorsement, do not make bee stings feel any better…
Then, Dade went to scouts. We discussed it and decided it should be safe enough. Just no basketball or running around. But, Murphy’s law being so powerful in our lives, Dade was accidentally knocked in the nose by a very gestureful talker. It doesn’t look good…
Pause here to add: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NAOMI, my sweet sister!! WE LOVE YOU!!
So we called the doc & sure enough they want him to come in. I checked and it looks like his stitches might have ripped open and he’s bleeding out both sides of his nose…
Oh, and his teachers emailed and said he has to come into school on his day off and make up his midterms. Good thing I always leave room in my calendar for surprise doctors appts and last minute test make ups…oh wait, I don’t…tomorrow is going to me a nightmare. Good thing my mom is so smart and suggested I let Corben spend the weekend with my fabulous, wonderful, amazing, etc, etc, sister!! At least one kid will not be dragged all over the world tomorrow!
And, just to get you in the Halloween mood…here’s a huge spider that is hanging about 2 stories up above our deck. The girls happened to look up and see his very full web swaying in the breeze tonight and started screaming. He’s even wrappin’ up a bug in this picture….I don’t think I’ve EVER seen that many bugs in a web before. Thank you, Mr. Spider.
Oh, and here’s a bigger version of the spider from the beginning which is actually a spider I took a pic of a few weeks ago but I think the picture is cool enough to put here because it’s Halloween week….(taking a breath)
I was pretty sure that Friday was going to be CRAZY….but it wasn’t! Thanks, Tammy & Mom! Got up early and headed to the highschool so Dade could take exams. I was just hoping and praying he’d finish before we had to leave for Tantrum Tamers & sure enough he walked out just in time! Then my mom offered to take him for the day & take him to his Dr. appt. so I could not stress about time at Ella’s appt. I got home around 4 after getting to run some very important errands and had just enough time to get the girls costumes together (so Ryan could take them to the Trunk or Treat) & gather my things before I headed out to meet Dade at the Scout Merit Badge clinic where I was helping scouts sign off on Photography.
In case you weren’t aware…unlike all the Princess POSERS out there this Halloween weekend….My girls are the REAL THING!!
I finally got to chat with Dade after the clinic. His dr. appt went well and the doc says that he thinks Dade’s nose will heal okay. He wants to check again in a week. Dade got most of one merit badge passed off tonight…2 more to go tomorrow!
Saturday, Ryan spent 6 hours with scouts helping them on their cooking merit badge while I stayed home and tried not to enjoy the lack of some sort of appt. I cleaned just to make sure I wasn’t overly happy. (Okay, actually I danced to music and actually got stuff done, played with the girls, and almost took a nap…) I picked Dade up in the afternoon from his merit badge clinic (he signed off on Carpentry and most of Cinematography), rushed home to put on costumes & then ran over to meet my sister at her ward’s Trunk or Treat to pick up Corben and let the kids have some more fun.
Sylvie & Ella both rocked to bean bag tossing game!
My brother, Jason, and his fabulous girlfriend showed up to help us with the kids. They had the most amazing costumes on… It’s Hiccup, Astrid & Toothless from How to Train Your Dragon!
We even convince Jason to add a wig…
Trunk or Treat was a lot of fun! Corben was a Ninja…the pillow case was to hold candy…it only looks like he’s standing in it…
Oh, here’s proof Dade was there!
I then left Dade at the church for a youth dance and headed to my SIL’s for a few hours to wait for the dance to be over. We were much too far from home to have gone home and come back…Thanks, Jamie!
Halloween – So, it’s kind of understood in our family that if it’s Sunday and it’s Halloween, we’re not going Trick or Treating. I figure, the Lord didn’t ask us to give up Halloween, he’s just asked us to keep one day a week holy and if I have to give up Halloween every few years to follow that commandment then it’s no big sacrifice. Besides, the kids got to go to two big Halloween parties and instead of going out tonight, we had a family party! (You want to know the best part??…Not one of my children complained even once. I even listened in on a conversation Corben had with his friend next door and he was very matter-of-fact about it being Sunday. I am one proud momma!!)
So, instead….we ate Spaghetti Worms for supper, made Awesome Pumpkin sugar cookies…
Dade and the girls made & everyone played Pin The Grin on the Pumpkin!
Then we iced our cookies!
Then, Dade went into the living room with Ella and said, “Ella, we need to make the living room look nice before bed. I need you to pick up the toys right there and put them in that bin.” And that was all it took…she not only ran all around and cleaned up all the toys in the living room (stopping only to pose for this triumphant picture) but when we got upstairs to her room she ran all around and cleaned it up, too!! I haven’t been able to get her to clean in 4 years and as of Friday’s Tantrum Tamers she’s a cleanin’ fool!
Me = Happy.
Stay tuned for next weeks BIG NEWS!! (no I’m not pregnant…)
