Today?  Today I worked.  I got about half of the long forgotten laundry done (the dryer is still tumbling in the background.).  The boys and I cleared about a 8th of an acre of cut down tree limbs (some 15 feet long) in about 4 hours which included dragging them from the front of our acre to the back, carrying all the large logs to the fire pit and stacking them, and then clearing the entire area of any stick that may become a weapon when the mower goes by.  Twice I had a good fire going to help us get rid of the limbs but the rain just wouldn’t work with me.  I’m very proud of my boys.

Dade came to me and told me that the school AG teacher pulled him  aside   today extremely excited about his EOG scores in math.  He’s been considered to have a moderate need for AG in math up until now but I had noticed that on the sheet that came home last week moderate had been crossed out and strong had been written beside it.  Students haven’t received the final scores yet but several teachers have pulled Dade aside to tell him how excited they are for his math scores.  I’m so proud of him!  He’s pretty excited about it, too.

Dade went on his first field trip in years today.  His most memorable part?  Sitting on a new bus under the A/C unit which dripped on him and the boy beside him the entire way….until the bus would brake and then the unit would dump large amounts of freezing water on them.  Luckily, Dade was on the slightly drier side and only got damp.  The boy beside him was soaked and had water running down his face.  You’d think they’d let kids move out from under something like that.

Today we had wonderful company over!  A friend of mine dropped  her two girls off for a few hours and we had a blast.  It’s always nice when the girls have someone else to play with.

Also, my house looks like a bomb went off.  Not because it’s dirty but because there’s clean laundry EVERYWHERE!….I don’t mind washing.  I sure hate folding….

Wednesday

First day with my new Kodak Playsport digital video/camera…….:P

(morning)

Wednesday night was scouts.  I got to sit next to my very fun nephew.  Isn’t he cute??  (My new video camera doesn’t take the best photos but, hey, it’s portable so I won’t complain….)  Here also is Corben receiving his archery belt loop and Dade standing in front of a cool sky….

Our Ella had another evaluation for her speech today and  passed with flying colors.  Her talking  really has taken off over the last couple of months and it’s been a lot of fun.  She did, of course, wow the staff with her energy and enthusiasm and so it’s been recommended we test for ADHD and send her to an occupational therapist for Sensory needs.  This is the 3rd clinic to give us the same recommendations, I’ve just hated the thought of taking one more kid to one more doctor on a regular basis.  They say it’s fine not to go if she’s not attending preschool but think it may be an issue once we send her to school.  Add that to my list of things to pray about….

Dade spent this afternoon working on part of a school project.  His team had troubles deciding whether to support saving the whales or the pandas (they had to pick one).  Dade, wanted to save Pandas, so since they keep asking him to do the hard stuff (make the t-shirt, build the website, etc.) they get his two cents worth every time.  He’s such a funny kid!

Can I tell you how much I LOVE our garden and how it brings our family together??!!

Our tomatoes are almost as tall as Ryan and getting big!!

This is Corben, and his best friend, Christian.  Christian lives next door!  Today, after helping out in the garden, they headed to Christian’s to pick cherries right off the tree (Ryan and I loaded up ourselves!)…

…and then finished a bridge they built so they could get into the woods on their bikes without having to go through the big puddle!!

Today we had to go and buy Dade an entire new wardrobe….again.  Could someone please put a  brick on this kid’s head??  This time we tried something different.  I gave him a budget and he not only had to purchase his clothing but he also purchased hygiene products (including shaving cream – ugh).  He did a pretty good job and in the end I did let him go a few dollars over but it was because I got more Kohl’s cash back if he actually went over the $100 then if he was 23 cents under.

Here’s video of the car ride to Kohl’s.  Probably boring if you’re not immediate family who hasn’t seen them in a while!

image We then had my SIL and her 3 over to pick cherries and my mom came with the cousins and my sister’s dogs.  It was a nice visit and then mom took Corben off for the weekend.

SATURDAY

Well, the rain canceled my photo shoot but it meant I got to sleep imagein!  Ryan’s outside getting to  experience working on cars in driveways instead of shops.  I’m so glad he can fix them!

imageI went OUT this evening and hung out with one of the most fun groups of  women ever!  We played games, laughed, ate, laughed some more…..problem is, when you finally drag me out of my cave and put me in front of an audience you’re bound to get a pretty nice collection of good blackmail photos….or in this  case….video.  Why, oh why, do I do this to myself??  (Video to come…..maybe….)

The following are inside jokes….well, at least they make me laugh if I even think of them….

{SUNDAY}image

Can you say NO SLEEP??  That’s what happens when you stay up until almost midnight laughing  and playing Apples to Apples with the Girls.  Somehow I still managed to pull together almost 2 hours worth of music time for church.  Now we’re home and it’s quiet…..ahhhh….I love this time of day…….

It’s not a beautiful Sunday without a family walk….

5-23-2010 Week in Review

This week started out with Ryan headed out to his first new job since High School!  He was pretty excited.  So are the rest of us!  We haven’t had Ryan home before 6pm in Years!!

Tuesday I had a very scary moment (seems to be a theme this week….).  Anyway, I was pulling out of Corben’s school when the school bus pulled up and blocked my view.  I couldn’t go because I couldn’t see, and he couldn’t go because I was blocking his wide turn.  This actually happens quite often and usually the bus driver waves to me when it’s clear to go and I inch out.  Well today a woman pulled in from the right to turn into the school, thus blocking my exit anyway.

Accident

However, the bus driver was looking at me and told me it was alright to go.  Noticing that the woman was also watching the bus driver and seemed to be pausing I started to go.  Suddenly the woman turned to make the left turn in front of me and I had to slam on the breaks.  At the same second we all heard screeching tires as a car that had come speeding past the bus slammed into the back of the turning vehicle and spun her around missing our car by inches.  I suddenly realized that if she had not taken that ill timed left turn then I would have been the car struck by the speeder and it would have hit my drivers door straight on.  Not only would that have been bad for us, but seeing as I was in a suburban and he was driving a compact I think it would have been very bad for him.

I was shaky for the rest of the day!!!

The next day we had this rabbit and two of its siblings chasing each other for hours in our yard.  It was fun to watch and take pictures….until they headed for the garden!  Then Dade and I had to chase them off!

Thursday brought my next big scare!  See these cute innocent faces below??  Well….they brought me……

…THIS!!!

(mouse over no pun intended the picture for what I got a view of)

I’m sitting in the house when I turn around to have a DEAD MOUSE shoved into my face by Ella while Bean yells, “It’s a baby mouse who lost it’s family!!”  They were so concerned….and so confused when I started SCREAMING!!  Luckily I got Ella to drop it outside instead of inside and we did a thorough hand scrubbing/sanitizing before they asked me to come outside and take a picture of it for them.

We then had a funeral where they each gave a prayer that consisted of asking for the mouse to come back alive and then asking for it to see it’s family again.  Bean started out and listed every family member she could think of (including aunts and cousins), Ella was next and I think she said the same thing, then Sylvie (who kept getting interrupted by Bean as she reminded Sylvie of a family member she’d missed).  It was so cute!  When Sylvie finished they all turned to Monkey Man (my nephew) for his turn when Bean exclaimed, “But he can’t talk!”  We decided that 3 prayers was enough and we went on with our day.  There’s no woosy girl’s at MY house!!

Friday I was the assistant photographer at a Youth Dance.  It was a Phantom of the Opera theme and so fun! DSC_0706

Why Editing is often Necessary when I’m taking pictures…..

This is the Final Edit….

This is the BEFORE!!

silly

I’d actually looked at this picture 3 or 4 times wondering who that kid was before I realized it was ME….LOL….I’m such a dork.

Saturday the boys headed out for a weekend with their dad and the rest of us enjoyed the fact that we had NOTHING we HAD to do!!  So, what do you do when you have nothing to do?? You go shopping….  Now, I don’t go for much that’s fancy but I do have one vice.  I LOVE super high heels.  I always have, always will.  So, we headed to the mall and added several (very affordable) pairs to my collection.  (Thanks, Honey!!) – I wore the pink ones to church today!

 DSC_0952-2

Sunday brought the 3rd (and hopefully final) scare of the week!!

During church Ella started making some weird sounds and started saying she needed to cough but couldn’t.  Her (wonderful) teacher had taken her to the hallway to see if she was alright when Ella suddenly got very lethargic and started going limp.  Fearing an asthma attack they ran to get me but, for the first time, we didn’t have Ella’s inhaler with us.  We ALWAYS bring two diaper bags to church but today we only grabbed one.  HOWEVER, Ella’s teacher had inspiration that morning while packing for church to pack her son’s inhaler (something she doesn’t always do but felt prompted to do today) and had it on hand.  It was a VERY scary few moments for me and her…and the people around us in the hallway.  The inhaler seemed to help bring her around a bit but she was still very sleepy so the ambulance was called.

The paramedics checked her out and informed us she had a fever but that they thought we could take her to an urgent care.  We took her back inside where she received a Priesthood blessing.  By the time we had her in the car going home she was back to herself and she’s been fine all day.  I am so thankful to everyone who was there for us at church and for all the calls and visits since we got home.  We are so thankful for you all!
