Yes, I know, Odes are supposed to be positive....but it's POLLEN!!
And yes, I know this is a bit harsh, but as I sit here in my allergy medicated fog....I don't really care....:)
~~ Ode to Pollen ~~
Little tiny yellow specks
Covering our cars and decks
I wish that I was Claritin clear
On just what has brought you here
Curious as to this case
Of yellow stuff all over the place
I opened up my encyclopedia
Did research and watched the media
It seems that every year this time
The pine tree looks out and starts to whine
Tired of the tree next door
They’re sad that they can’t go explore
You see they’re stuck there by their roots
They can’t just throw on cowboy boots
And head on out to find a mate
Hug her, woo her, set a date
So they must broadcast on the air
Hey all you cute trees out there
I’m sorry there’s not flowers to send
But I’m just a pine tree round the bend
I’m sure that you’ve been cold all winter
I’ve made you something while I’ve sat here
It’s a homemade yellow blanket
I’ve sent it out, I hope it makes it
How sweet of him to think of her
If you think about it you’ll concur
Unless of course, you’re just like me
And dread the pollen of this tree
You see it makes my nose get runny
My itchy eyes they sure aren’t funny
I spend each moment between a sneeze
And yelling at these love sick trees
To keep their blanket to themselves
Or I might just make some new pine shelves
The chain saw’s out, it’s oiled and gassed
Don’t worry trees, I’ll make it fast
Now painless I can’t guarantee
But you haven’t exactly thought of me
You leave your love letter on my sill
And I’m stuck taking Benedryl
Before this far it has to go
I’m letting all you pine trees know
That if I let out one more sneeze
I’m coming after all you trees!
A sneeze! Oh! I just split my spleen!
Oh how I hate things ever green.
And yes, it’s true, that’s all it took,
I now have a place to keep each book!

How clever and funny you are, Christy!! I'm glad that (at the moment) I don't have allergies; this is comforting even so!
