Monday Corben & I headed over to a local flute maker to pick out a flute for Corben’s birthday. This is not the flute he picked out but just an example. He was able to pick out the wood and chose a horse for the top. He fell in love with these at the Artsplosure downtown this summer. I love that he loves music and art so much!
Tuesday this is the sweet face that Ryan woke to. :)
Tuesday night was Open House at Ella’s school. We made it…late…but we made it! In picture number 2, can you tell which picture was Ella’s?? (cropping makes it a bit more obvious) Thanks to Ella’s teacher for these pictures from her blog!
Wednesday I took Corben to the doc to have his wrist looked at. It’s been pretty sore since his trip a few weeks ago and between ziplining, horseback riding, and rock climbing I wanted to make sure he hadn’t injured it. Doc thinks it’s just sprained. While Ella was busy making mobiles at school and Ryan was hanging out in his office…I helped my neighbor make a purse cake! It was so fun having someone who actually thinks I know stuff and wants me to teach them! :)
Hours after bedtime I came in to find Ryan conked out on the couch with the girls…
Thursday, Sylvie went for her first BIG haircut (more than a trim). Her baby curls are all gone but she looks beautiful. Yeah, I somehow missed getting a picture. But Ryan and the girls found this Orb Weaver in the garden!
Friday while Ella was making tops :) Corben & I were headed to an appt for him .
My amazing (as always) mom, picked Dade up from school and brought him home for me and then took the girls for another fun cousin sleep over!
Saturday we were up early so the boys could participate in their youth service project. This was Corben’s first time doing a youth activity. :) They weeded and worked at a local elementary school. The town they were working in treated them right. The newspaper came over to take pictures and they even sent the ice cream man over for free snow cones!
Dade came home and put together this fun video from photos he took with friends at school while he was supposed to be studying.
Sunday was one of the Best. Days. EVER!! All of Ryan’s & My local family came to church with us for Collin’s blessing and to participate in Dade giving Corben the Aaronic Priesthood!! The blessing was so beautiful and Dade was able to hold the mic so he was as close to being in the circle as he could have been. Ryan’s brothers, brother in law, dad, my brother Jason, and my dad were all in the circle. I can’t even begin to tell you how strong the Holy Spirit testifies to me each time I see these men stand together using their priesthood. Afterwards (despite knowing he shouldn’t be taking pictures in the chapel) Ryan went a little pic crazy with his super happy baby boy. Collin was smiling and laughing through the entire blessing! Isn’t he so adorable in his little white suit??!!
After the blessing, they were passing the sacrament when they ran out of water cups! Everyone in the entire congregation (including all our family) got one except for Dade! Luckily they didn’t have to bless more water after they realized they still had a little bowl of blessed water on the side. I was amazed at how close those boys counted the congregation!
After church came the big moment. Our entire family gathered in a very large room and all the men gathered around to lay their hands on Corben’s head to confer upon him the Aaronic Priesthood. All of the men hold the Melchizedek Priesthood but since Dade is a Priest now (over the age of 16), he can confer the priesthood to those just getting the Aaronic Priesthood. Corben will be a Deacon and wanted his brother to do it. Dade is blessed with amazing youth leaders who helped to teach him how to give the blessing. They reminded him at the last minute that after giving the priesthood he is supposed to give a blessing to Corben as guided by the Spirit. That was actually the hardest part. Dade knew what he was supposed to say and what he was being guided to say but was having a hard time figuring out how to put it into words. It was a beautiful blessing. Corben was blessed with many things that he has truly needed. I know Dade was inspired. After it was done, Corben had a sore neck (lol – the weight of the hands of 11 men on your head for several minutes), Dade almost collapsed with relief and joy, and the Spirit was so strong in the room. It was one of the greatest moments this Mama has ever witnessed for her children. I now know why I had them so many years apart!!
On Facebook I wrote: “In addition to our sweet Collin getting blessed today, Dade came home this weekend to give his now 12 year old brother the priesthood. I am so proud of Corben for being the kind of young man who is worthy to take on such a responsibility and a blessing and for Dade to be the kind of young man worthy to pass such an amazing gift onto his brother. The circle was filled with our new bishopric, 5 uncles, 2 grandpas, Ryan and Dade. I asked Corben if he felt different and he said yes. When I asked how he paused and said with a smile...Better. :) It's been a wonderful day.”
Then we all headed back to our home for a celebration of the days events and also a family birthday party for Corben & my nephew, Noah!
It was so great to get to see my sisters two weekends in a row!!
There are a ton of family shots from this day taken by father-in-law. I’ll post them when I get them!

That is sooo sweet, Christy. I LOVE that Dade was able to give Corben a blessing and everything...what a beautiful experience!
I love the power of the righteous example of an older brother. It touches my heart like nothing else.
