9-26-2010 “Weak” Review….

So, this week mostly consisted of me taking care of a sick baby and trying to finish the million things I needed to get done.

Our week started out with a sick Sylvie.  Luckily it was mostly a fever but she clung to me all day  long.  She felt better by the next day so I went ahead and took her to her 3 year wellbaby appt.  My little girl is in the 50% for height and 25% for weight.  They gave her two shots, which she took like a trooper and then we headed home.  By evening she was complaining that her legs hurt.  Sure enough in the morning she was running a high fever and wouldn’t/couldn’t walk.  It lasted a couple of days but she did eventually feel better.  Good thing since it was her day to go with Fama to scouts!

Dade’s joined the wrestling team at school so we had to go out and try to find sized 13 wrestling shoes (which only came in the REALLY expensive brands) and figure out how he’s going to work a daily run into his schedule.  I’m proud and excited for him though.  He’s needed to get into a sport and since his dad wrestled Dade’s had the idea to do this for years.  I look forward to watching him succeed!

Thursday brought on the start of Autumn though you’d never know it by the heat outside.  It was a busy day for me as we ran to Chapel Hill to see if Ella qualified for a paid study (she did!).  So now they’re going to pay me to try out a new discipline program. Out of all my kids, Ella was the focus only because she falls into the age range they’re studying.  As soon as I got back I dropped the kids off and rushed to my first meeting with the high school PTSA where I am now the Vice President!!  I know, I’m crazy, but it feels right.

The girls had an early morning playgroup trip to Petco.  I really enjoy taking them on all the fieldtrips we do with our group.  The funniest part was when one of the lizards being held by a store employee jumped onto a little boy’s head and then from there onto a little girl’s face!!  She handled it like a pro though and just stood there until the staff removed it.  Where’s my camera when I need it??  Dade headed out that night for an overnight campout and canoeing trip.  Ryan took the rest of us out for dinner at Golden Corral.  The kids ate until they made themselves sick.

Saturday was a great day to celebrate the Anniversary of two of my favorite people!!  I LOVE you Jessica and am SO SO SO glad you are a part of our family.  You only made it better!

I spent the day running to photoshoots, birthday parties, picking kids up from campouts, painting the deck, emptying the pool, cleaning my house, and being in a very hormonal mood, not that you wanted to know that part….

I missed the RS broadcast because of a million things but one was that while I was getting ready and grumbling over how nothing fit right my little Sylvie came in and said, “Is it too small?  Is it for small mommies and you’re a big mommy?”  Well, THAT didn’t help at all and so when, a moment later, my attention was drawn to some things that needed getting done asap, I decided I should do them.  I figured I’d go late but that never happened.  I wish I’d gone, I sure needed it.

So now it’s the Sabbath and we just finished feeding the missionaries and Dade’s back from his youth fireside.  I’m now going to go and shave Dade’s hair at his request…guess the long hair is too much to manage when you’re a busy guy like him!

9-19-2010 Week in Review…

Monday…sigh…Monday was catch up day.  Catching up on ALL the cleaning that not only hadn’t been done all weekend while I sorted through old memories, but a whole house that got turned UPSIDE DOWN while I was either in bed, sick or outside sorting.  It took all day and it’s only slightly cleaner than when the weekend started.  I’m sleepy… Anyway, I got it done because I finally figured out that I needed to kick the kids out to get anything done and that I COULD kick them out because they had a place to go!  (Take note of Sylvie wearing pants in the picture…it NEVER EVER EVER happens….she told Ella she was being a prince like her and then frowned and said, Guess I’m not a Princess today….sigh.) Okay back to what I was saying before….

They could go out on the DECK!!  YIPPEE!! Isn’t it beautiful!? (pay no attention to the girls playing in the stain bucket…I sure wasn’t…)  Don’t you just LOVE the benches?  The girls read out there for a long time and then rode their scooters around.

I Heart my Deck….Thank you, Honey! (and J.M.) for all your hard work!

(Here’s a before…our previous “deck” barely fit the grill, you had to stand in the doorframe to cook!)  To give you an idea, the top step coming out the back door WAS our old deck!

Okay, on with the blog….

(Funny Moment – the girls started crying and called me to their room to inform me that they were scared of bears.  There were tears and Ella explained why she was scared and where the bears were at, so on and so on…then Sylvie, midst her tears, said, “I don’t like bears….they don’t taste good (sniffle, sniffle)”.  I tried really hard not to laugh, guess eating that worm last week really got her thinking….)

Well, our Corben’s poor little toad has been looking a bit ill (I think it may be blind in one eye).  That’s so not cool.  Anyway, we changed her light around which seemed to help a lot and then…we decided…we should get her a friend.  So, off to the pet shop we go and we ask specifically for another girl.  Well, it seems that I know more about that then the pet store so Corben and I take a look…looks like they have 3 males…sigh.  BUT, maybe I’m wrong so we pick the most active of the bunch & Corben names “him” Jeremiah (he’s not a bull frog) on the way home.  Well, life is great now in the big world of the aquarium.  Let’s just say that Spotters and Jeremiah seem to be getting along swimmingly…I personally think they’re getting along a little TOO well, oh and that maybe we got BOTH of their genders wrong….  Anybody want a baby fire-belly toad??

I love getting together with family!  The girls got to go to a day of Preschool at Aunt Jamie’s house.  They had so much fun learning about the letter A!

Dade had a trip to the temple this week (Yeah, Dade!) and I didn’t remember in time to get him a ride so we packed up and headed out.  While Dade was inside doing service the rest of us perused the Church Bookstore, ate pizza, and watched Tinkerbell.  In the bookstore, Sylvie found these dresses and was SO SO SO very excited.  She posed by them so I could take her picture.

I was supposed to go the beach this weekend for a little get away, thanks to some very generous friends….but….can you believe….I couldn’t get ANYONE to go with me??  Now, I know it’s’ for good reasons, like work, illness, no babysitter, bigger & better parties (lol), etc, etc….but I was just a little disappointed…

Our little town throws a great party every year and they did great again this year!  Slides, animals, bouncy houses, ponies, and it’s all FREE!!

There were baby skunks, Alligators, and the cutest Opossum you EVER SAW!!…I want one…

Ella in a fire truck…

My Sis’s new puppy, Tuff

….and Corben on the…what ever that is…..  Corben also climbed the rock wall this year and got higher than ever before, though not as high as he’d like.  I’m proud that he keeps trying, year after year.  I know he’ll reach the top one day!

Oh, and here’s a bonus Corben eye for your enjoyment…FREE!

9-12-2010 Week in Review…

Can you believe it’s Labor Day and Ryan has a DAY OFF!!  I love his new job…

Well, we had decided some time ago to have it be a family day so we headed out to go canoeing!

This next picture pretty much describes the entire trip…Corben bent over his paddle, lifeless…Ella, drinking everyone’s drinks (we had to stop 6 times for her to go potty!)…Ryan looking grumpy (just kidding)…Dade not paddling…Sylvie being silly…

Though I got a killer workout and the boys decided that family trips should not include mandatory work, they loved paddling through the “rapids” and climbing out on the rocks.

Proof I was there…and this picture of Sylvie was taken from under the water….

Sylvie spent most of the time playing in the water over the side of the boat.  She did finally ask me where the boat bed was (lol) and took a small nap during which she continually Shushed Dade and I if we talked at all….

I checked Google Earth and it looks like we paddled almost 8 miles!!  Not bad for 6 hours out on the river!

Can you say, “OUCH”!!??  I can’t say that I had any one big pain, just an overall ache…and I was pretty tired…still, it was so worth the trip….ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Our deck is finally shaping up!  Here’s proof that Dade isn’t always inside on his computer!

It’s SYLVIE’S BIRTHDAY!!!

First thing we headed out to join the girl’s playgroup on a field trip!!

We got a fun tour of the store and the kids got to try lots of fun foods & pet a lobster!  (I’m pretty sure Ella wanted to take it home and care for it.)

The kids got to go into the SUPER COLD freezer in the back and see where they load the milk onto the shelves.

Finally they got to see what it’s like to ring up some food at the register and get a fun goodie bag to take home!  What a great field trip!

We spent the rest of the day getting things ready for Sylvie’s party.  She requested a Snow White cake, again, this year.  She really has just always loved her.  Maybe it’s the short hair??  Anyway, here’s my cake I worked on all afternoon.  I know, her nose is a little funny (as both my brother and Ryan pointed out…) but Sylvie loved it and Corben said I could have sold it so I think it turned out just fine!

I had icing left over that Dade wanted to eat.  Always looking for a new form of entertainment, Ryan told him he could eat everything he could get on his face….men/boys are weird….

Sylvie’s party was great!  She was so excited and several of the neighbors and Uncle Jason & Cassie joined us, as well.

Everyone laughed when she blew her candles out before we could even sing but I reminded them she’s only ever done this a couple of times before, if that, so they cut her some slack…:)

Sylvie got pretty new Princess shoes that I’m pretty sure she’s going to wear EVERYWHERE…

We then all went outside and hung out on the mostly finished (just needs some more stain) DECK!!  YEAH!! - (pics to come)

The weather was dreary today so photoshoots were cancelled…sigh…but that just means we all get to go to BUGFEST!!!  YEAH!  2 whole city blocks and 4 floors of the science museum all dedicated to BUGS!! (Sylvie had the perfect bug dress just for the occasion!)

The kids were SO excited about getting to play musical instruments!  Corben really wants to play violin…I always saw myself playing the fiddle…maybe I’ll let him give it a try…

Corben really enjoyed the Flea Circus…it was so much fun to watch!

See the picture above?? The one on the right? Yes, it says chocolate covered worms!! And guess what…my kids ATE THEM!!!  (They’re cool like that.)

DSC_5020-2DSC_5022-2DSC_5021-2DSC_5023-2DSC_5024-2DSC_5025-2

Despite the look of the pics above, Sylvie is the only one who made a face while eating it.  Corben gobbled his down and Ella did too….and then she started spitting! lol

DSC_5029-2DSC_5026-2DSC_5027-2DSC_5028-2DSC_5033-2DSC_5034-2

We then went to the GLOW exhibit, all about glowing animals…(they had 3 fish and the rest were pictures or dead things….sigh.)  Corben was very disappointed.

Okay, somewhere on this day my ISO on my camera was changed from 200 to 2000!!!!  I have no idea how…but it made picture taking a bit difficult and in all the rush I couldn’t figure out why until I got home and viewed them….sorry….

DSC_5064 DSC_5067DSC_5070DSC_5071

Did I mention my Ella just LOVES bugs!!

DSC_5074-2DSC_5075-2

Okay, see these TOTALLY CUTE pig tails??  Can you believe she SCREAMED for over an hour this morning about having to wear them?  They’re not very PRINCE LIKE….sigh…(she had them out first thing when we got in the car to go home!)

Ryan’s out of town White Water Rafting! Must be nice…anyway, Dade & I ended up sick today for no good reason.  I’m feeling a lot better but still not quite myself.  I decided it was a decent time to go through some old boxes of my stuff from my childhood that had been long lost in an old moldy shed, so much stuff ruined. :(  Most of these photos were actually from a late night of taking pictures and burning a lot of things due to mold on Saturday….

I’m leaving this next one clickable so you can read my mom’s testimony.  She’s awesome.

Dear Vanessa G., I started this cross stitch of Friendship Bear for you when we were in Junior High….sorry, but I never finished it but at least you now know that I cared enough to start!! :)

I then stayed up late to watch my friend, Amber, on Freaky Eaters (see previous post).
