Ryan actually had Memorial Day off of work!! I’m so loving his new job….
Dade was off with my mom so the rest of us headed out to the Farmer’s Market. I had so much fun watching Ella eat EVERYTHING!! She and Corben gobbled up tons of free samples. The pic below is hard to tell but it’s Ryan and the girls sharing a drink with 3 straws…..weird, huh.
We then met my mom, Dade, and Bean at the lake just in time for the DOWNPOUR!! It was great and despite the rain, mom, the boys & Bean headed out on the paddle boats while we sat and fed the geese for a bit…..
Ella posing with the goslings….
Mom and her gang on their paddle boat….taken by me and my gang on ours…..
There was a moment as Ryan and I were paddling around the lake that both girls suddenly had to go potty. Ryan tried to get Ella to let him dangle her in the water but she was convinced he’d let her go so we tried to put a diaper on her but she was freaking out about that so Ryan finally convinced her just to halfway hang over the side and go….I was in the back changing Sylvie’s diaper at the same time…..
I had this thought……
6 years ago, Ryan and I rented paddle boats and spent a wonderful hour together laughing and enjoying being engaged.....today we spent another hour on a paddle boat..in the middle of the lake....me changing a diaper in the back...and Ryan hanging our 3 year old over the side so she could go....will the romance never end??
But my great friend, Tara, had an even better thought…..”Life and how it changes. You know....one day, you two will be alone again together, in that paddle boat, wondering where it all went to. Enjoy everything! Sounds like it was a good family time together! :O)”
I love good friends!! and I look forward to that paddle boat ride!!
Along our ride we found a piece of fishing line with a lure on it that Ryan let the girls drag around the lake behind us….we didn’t catch anything….:) THEN we found a turtle!!
Ella really was excited to hold the turtle, I just caught her face at a funny moment…..
Then we let her let it go. She put it in the water and gave it a few nudges before it took off.
Ryan’s pretty good at skipping rocks! You can’t tell very well I actually caught this rock in mid flight…..
That night I couldn’t find Ryan…..
Inner Strength = If you can start the day without caffeine or pep pills, If you can be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains, If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles, If you can eat the same food everyday and be grateful for it, If you can understand when loved ones are too busy to give you time, If you can overlook when people take things out on you when, through no fault of yours, something goes wrong, If you can take criticism and blame without resentment, If you can face the world without lies and deceit, If you can conquer tension without medical help, If you can relax without liquor, If you can sleep without the aid of drugs, If you can do all these things, Then you are probably the family dog. (from my mom...made me laugh)
Tuesday, Ella had her first Dentist appt!!!! She was so excited that she even dressed up in a dress to go! She was so still and did everything she was asked. I was really pretty amazed. And best of all?? NO CAVITIES!! Yeah!!
We’d brought Sylvie along to watch so she’d be ready in a few months when she turns 3 but she was so good that they offered to go ahead and give her a check up now. I said, sure! Ella sat by her rubbing her hair and telling her how good she was doing. It was so sweet.
Sylvie charmed everyone. Every time they’d do the brush on her teeth she’d giggle and laugh.
My two NO CAVITY girls with their beautiful smiles!!
For supper, Ryan’s brother and his family joined us for a fun family evening!! We love having them over!! When Ryan got home, he had a special surprise for everyone…..
A BIG TURTLE!!!
He brought home the meanest, grumpiest turtle I’ve ever seen! It almost took a chunk out of Corben! We played with it for a bit and then let it go…..
During the course of the evening we realized that poor Dade’s eye was not doing well. Sure enough, it looked like Pink Eye…..YUCK!! So, Ella headed out for a sleepover with the cousins to avoid the germs! She was so excited!
Before bed, Dade emailed his teacher to let her know he wouldn’t be there to present his Save the Whales/Pandas project. He included this….
His teacher wrote back…..
“Thanks Dade :) You always know how to brighten my day. Thanks for not bringing in your gross germs too. However, I think your team is lost without you. Hurry back Pink Eyed Panda/Whale Saver!!!!”
I love that Dade makes everyone smile!
Sure enough, it’s pink eye for both of them. Luckily we now have some wonderful drops and new black eye patches to keep from scaring everyone. I’ve thoroughly scrubbed the house and hopefully (knock on wood) the girls and grownups will be spared…..
Oops, forgot to include the boys’ OTHER EYES being spared….Dade’s has spread…sigh. He’s insisting on going to school tomorrow and he has a doctors note and a full day’s worth of antibiotics in him but I guarantee people will be freaking out….he looks kind of scary!
Corben didn’t want to be left out so he added his other eye to the mix….oh yea, and nothin’ says fun like adding an itchy rash to it all….good times…..
Dade walked in the house Friday from school with not two pink eyes, but one pink eye and one YELLOW eye!! Of course, the doc wanted to see us again so we headed back and are glad we did. The new doc gave us stronger medicine and let us know he thought the yellow was nothing to worry about…all part of the getting better process. I hate weird illnesses…really I do. The boys eyes are already doing better on the stronger drops. YEAH!
Today was NATIONAL DONUT DAY!! Now I do wish we’d gotten some pictures of Krispy Kreme when we went. To call it a mad house is kind of an understatement. People were NOT being friendly in the parking lot and we took several rude looks from people before we could even get our car into a space. However, once we were inside the line (that ran the length of the building 3 times!) was moving quickly and everyone was happy and friendly. How could you not be when you’re in line for FREE DOUGHNUTS!! When we left I had to stand in the middle of the road to stop traffic so Ryan could pull out but it was SO worth it. YUUMMMMMM…..HOT DOUGHNUTS NOW!
Okay, is it Donut or doughnut?? Apparently it depends on where you go. Every time I type it it bugs me……so I typed it both ways so I’m at least right sometimes.
Saturday was busy for Dade with Scout activities (horseback riding – pics to come I hope) and a birthday party. The rest of us hung out, cleaned house, ran errands, and worked on our respective church assignments. Nice not to have any place we HAD to be….
Sorry no pics these last few days….but the boys haven’t been looking very photogenic!!
Well, the pink eye is practically gone (YEAH)! I have a busy week ahead of me. Only 4 more days until I have 4 kids to keep busy all day instead of 2…. Usually I look forward to summer, and I AM looking forward to not having to get up and drive somewhere every morning and afternoon, but I find it hard to keep certain children from fighting all day long so I’m a bit worried about my sanity for the next few months….Pray for me!! :)

I will add prayers for you to my already desperately-uttered prayers for the peace in my own home! :) Summer can be oddly chaotic in its lazy pace, can't it?
I LOVE that you have a husband who will jump into the crib with your daughters and read to them by the light of a flashlight....I am a sucker for unique displays of familial love, and that totally fits the bill. And I love all the photos of you guys doing stuff together--especially that your mom (oh, how I love her) is included in many of those activities! And I love the idea of paddle-boat-rides at different stages of life. :)
Love you.
