5-3-2009 Week in Review

Well, it has been a week of Revelation!!

Monday morning we headed in to get our dear Ella's hearing checked.  It was just a routine appt. as part of her speech evaluation.  WELL...Our sweet Ella has Mild to Moderate hearing loss and tests showed her eardrums weren't vibrating, probably due to fluid in her ears.  She had a cold so we thought it was part of that.

So, Tuesday we headed to the pediatrician who didn't see any fluid but said her eardrums weren't vibrating so the fluid was probably behind the eardrum.  As a side thought I had him check Sylvie's ears since she had a cold, too.  Well, she had a HUGE ear infection and her tonsils were inflamed.  Yeah for antibiotics!

So now it's Wednesday and we head to the Ear Nose & Throat doc who looks in Ella's ears and tells me that she has VERY thick gunk packed in behind her eardrums and that she needs tubes.  He also asked if she'd been tested for speech delays because she's probably been hearing everything as if her head was underwater for the last couple of years!!  AAHH!!  How sad!  So now I'm wondering if that's why Ella doesn't pay attention very well and why she never seems to listen!  (Now I'm not going to get too optimistic, she may come out of this thinking the world just got a lot louder and go everywhere with her ears covered.)  Anyway, Ella is scheduled for surgery on May 14th.  Keep her in your prayers, please!

So, also on Wednesday was my photo class.  We headed down to use a professional studio set up with lights as big as my house and all.  One of the students brought her family so I spent quite a bit of time taking their pictures.  It was a lot of fun and very educational.

DSC_2655  When Friday came I was really excited.  Why?  Because my new cupboards arrived!!  Ryan came home from work early and he and a friend spent all day/evening installing the upper cabinets.  They are so beautiful!  So now we're living with access to none of our dishes unless you want to dig them out of a box in the computer room.  I have to say, I've really taken my spray painted counter tops for granted.  I would be so happy to have anywhere to set a plate right now!  The girls spent a lot of time outside today trying to avoid the noise.

Saturday started early with saws and drills going strong.  My SIL Rachel came and we took the kids out to the playground for a few hours then came back and picked up some friends to go Strawberry picking!!

Anything to stay out of the house.  The kids had a blast at the field.  Sylvie INSISTED on carrying her own bucket and wouldn't let anyone take it from her.  She did a great job of finding the red ones but usually asked me to pick it for her.

When we were done, we headed home, had Strawberry Shortcakes, put the kids down for a nap and I actually got to spend about 30 minutes out on the hammock with a book.  YEAH!  I then got dressed up and headed out to dinner with the gals from church.  14 gals to be exact!  We met at Macaroni Grill and had a wonderful evening of good food and great conversation.  Thanks, Ladies!!Girls night 0013253_94124315699_719120699_2997480_4629745_n

Poor Ella!! My son has had two sets of ear tubes, and the surgeries went great -- very fast (about 10 minutes). However, as a warning, once he "came to" he was SO grumpy and confused . . . it's a little heartbreaking. However, the results were fantastic! He was so much better afterwards. Good luck!

Oh, man! Ella. Reed's hearing suffered for a while, but it was really just because of built-up packed-in wax. We had a doctor remove it and I'm not kidding....the size of a raisin from each ear. *shudder*

The photos are gorgeous! YOU are gorgeous!!
