Kitty Litter Cake

Well, I was viewing a friend's blog last week and found pictures of a kitty litter cake she'd made for her dad's birthday! I laughed 'til it hurt and then instantly was trying to come up with an occasion to make one for someone. As Luck would having it (my lucks been turning around), my sister-in-law and her family decided this week to adopt a cat!! So Sunday we came over with our cake and a little toy for the new cat. It was such a hit!! Of course, when I told my mom what I was going to do she wasn't as excited as I was (she hates "bathroom jokes") so for her sake I'll try to at least keep the way I talk about it low key and let the picture speak for itself! Anyway, Ryan went a bit overkill on the kitty mess but he wanted to make sure that there was some for everyone!! My brother-in-law had just changed the kitty litter and said that the cake sure wasn't very appetizing but he, like everyone else, ate his share. There was hardly any left! YUM!! Now for all of you who are now trying to come up with an occasion to make such a cake, I'll give you the recipe!

One large (disposable) aluminum lasagna pan
One small kitty litter container
One brand new kitty litter scoop

2 cake mixes (your favorite) - I used yellow & actually 1 cake mix would do fine
1 package of pudding (your favorite) - I used vanilla
1 package of vanilla oreos
green food coloring
tootsie rolls

Bake cake mixes according to directions in the large lasagna aluminum pan. Top with pudding. Blend oreos in the blender until completely ground up and cover top of cake to make kitty litter. Hold aside about 10 - 12 oreos and ground them up with green food coloring to sprinkle in for a more realistic kitty litter. Melt tootsie rolls in the microwave for at least 15 seconds and then shape them into the "kitty stuff" and place on cake. (About 10 looks pretty realistic) For a more realistic look roll them in some of the kitty litter. Refrigerate or serve right away. (If you don't refrigerate this cake right away the pudding starts to wick up to the top making the kitty litter and "kitty stuff" look wet which, for some, may be too realistic.) Ryan added some little kitty foot prints, we set the lasagna pan in the kitty litter container, added the scoop and it was done!! It's yummy, too!! Enjoy!!

That's so clever! Don't know if I could get past the tootsie roll "turds" though. hahaha!

I saw this on Julie Kilgore's blog and it's haunted me ever since, that is so gross looking! Ugh. I'll blame it on the pregnancy and the fact that I hate cats :) Yours is frightfully realistic, but I'm sure it actually tasted yummy.
