8-28-2011 WiR…

We did a fun back to school FHE that I found on the internet.  Our goal this year to to never miss a Family Home Evening.  They’re so important in the spiritual growth of our children.

Tuesday was crazy.  Ryan took Dade to the dentist (where they informed us his wisdom teeth need to come out! Ugh.) while I took Corben to a 5 hour (yes, 5 hr) open house.  We walked his schedule and he seems pretty excited.  It’s so fun seeing him growing up.  Afterwards, he and I went shopping for some school supplies when I got a call from Ryan asking if I’d felt the EARTHQUAKE.  WHAT?? Yes, as you all know the entire east coast was shaken with an earthquake today…and I MISSED IT!!  Is it wrong to be upset? At least I got to be the one to tell a few folks in the store who also missed it.  The shopping center we were in is apparently built quite sound.  I called home to talk to Dade who was babysitting Sylvie and he was pretty freaked out.  I’ve asked him to write about it but who knows when I’ll remember to have him do it.  Anyway, our fridge shook out of it’s little cubby into the middle of the kitchen and a few things fell.  I was worried Ella would be freaked out but they didn’t’ feel anything at school either.  We went to Ella’s open house that evening.  Now I’m tired!

Wednesday I had to take Corben to the dentist and get home in time to meet (for the first time) my wonderful Cousin (My 2nd cousin once removed) from Texas!!  Ada and I met over the internet after we found we were working on the same family history lines.  The best part about it is that she and her family are LDS!! I didn’t’ think there were any other LDS members on my dad’s side of the family.  She and I have been corresponding for some time and I care for her very much.  They came into town for a family reunion and made the extra trip over to visit us.  It was so great and even the boys told me they missed them after they left.  Thanks for coming, Ada!  We love you!

Wednesday night was Corben’s advancement out of Cub Scouts and into Boy Scouts!  He got his Webelos badge and crossed the bridge!

Then they had an unofficial Rain-gutter Ragada and the boys did great!!  Corben made his boat all by himself and it was SO fast!

Thurs = 1st day of school   WAHAAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Thursday found me sitting at the bus stop at 5:50am.  Corben was up and ready to go.  What a champ.  I hope he can keep this up! (I hope I can keep this up…)   Everyone had a great first day.  Corben’s school spent the day making sure the 6th graders knew how to get around and how to get into their lockers.  I appreciate their care in making sure our sweet kids don’t get overwhelmed!

Saturday we were all braced for Hurricane Irene.  Ryan worked from home and we just hung out as a family.  It rained a peaceful rain all day and the wind blew pretty hard at times.  The girls were a bit nervous about the “Leaf Storm” going on outside and after viewing the mass amounts of limbs and leaved down in our yard, Dade wished it would rain brooms next!  At one point I couldn’t find Corben and after searching I found him at the end of our road in his raincoat standing and facing the wind.  It was, IMO, gorgeous outside and I couldn’t blame him one bit.  I went out to walk with him in the rain and the puddles and he informed me he’d been out checking on the animals on our street and looking for birds or squirrels who may have fallen from trees.  He’s such a soft hearted child.  I love him so much.

We are fine after the hurricane and praying for those who were not.  Our garden is a bit worse for wear but most of it survived.  We went without power for just a tiny bit though some of our friends and neighbors went without all day.  So glad we were prepared for such things.  We’d have been fine even if we’d had not power or water for days.
