12-19-2010 Week in Review

The day started out early with Dade sick in the morning.  By mid-morning I was so glad he was home as Sylvie had a run in with a carpet nail and had to be taken to the doctor’s for STITCHES!!  She was such a trooper though, and never even shed a tear.  Everyone was amazed at her bravery.  She’s also much more sympathetic to my stitches now and says we’re twins.

A good friend was going to be taking the girls today so I could go to my follow up appt. with the surgeon but she ended up coming while I was gone with Sylvie so that didn’t work out.  Dade ended up watching the kids for me as he was feeling a little better.  Just as I was running out the door to my appt. Ella fell from a chair in the kitchen and busted her nose.  There was blood EVERYWHERE!!  We finally got it stopped but I left Dade with strict instructions to watch Ella for more bleeding and signs of a concussion and to keep Sylvie’s leg up.  I was late to my appt. and had blood all over my clothes but no one seemed to even notice. LOL  Doc says I have at least another week of recovery and that this is normal.

I decided I needed to be in a better mood so I made this…Ryan made it easy… Smile

The rest of the day went great.  Corben had a great day at school, everyone was in good spirits so we had a nice family supper together, made treats for Family Home Evening, played Secret Santa, and just had a nice evening together.  Ryan and I then got up in the middle of the night to go and watch the meteor shower.  He even gave me (another) early Christmas present (hope I have something to open on Christmas).  It was a huge outdoor heater!!  So we huddled around the heater (which doesn’t work as well as you’d hope in 19 degrees) and watched hundreds of meteors fall from the sky.  It was amazing.  I love that he and I share this love of the sky!  (Wait until he sees his Christmas presents…he’s gonna love me even more!)

Today I’m exhausted…but I guess that’s what you get for staying up all night watching stars.  It was another good day.  I’m still on pain meds but feeling almost normal when they’re working and just sore and worn out when they’re not.  I’m feeling very Christmasy this year.  I’m not usually this way but I find myself singing Christmas songs in the car and wishing I had hot cocoa to pass to all the freezing carpool staff.  I think our CHRISTmas tree has a lot to do with it.  Thinking about it all day and focusing on it at night has really had us thinking of helping others.  I just wish my bank account would supply me with the means to do all the fun things I keep thinking of!  It’s already empty so I guess I’m going to have to get creative.  Wait until you see the cute ornaments Corben helped me come up with with supplies we already had at home.  Oh, and I am no longer a bad mother.  Corben officially has a winter coat.  Now if I can just get him to wear it!

Before he goes to the landfill in the sky…here’s Corben’s grass creature he made in school…

This morning marks my LAST morning just me and the girls.  Tomorrow Ryan is off of work and when he finally goes back next Tuesday he will start his second shift from Noon until 9pm – Tuesday thru Saturday.  Great for him…not so exciting for me.  However, I’m trying to look on the bright side…I’ll let you know when I find it! Smile

Today, Sylvie decided she was a pink ballerina…

Ryan came home late from work so I missed my PTSA mtg but got to see Sylvie and Ella talk to their cousin Bean “Who just called to brighten their day!”.  Sylvie was cracking me up, I should have videoed their grownup conversation.

When Ryan did get home he had to show off his new locks.  Okay, actually, it’s a Build-a-bear wig but it's still funny.  He should totally have been a red head.

Thursday was Ryan’s first vacation day off of work in who knows how long and…of course…it snowed and iced so the kids were out too!  Corben spent the entire day out with the neighbors…literally the entire day.  Since Dade was home, Ryan and I got to go out and shop together!

School was delayed and I had the ALL the local cousins over!  Needless to say, Ryan headed out to get some much needed Honey Do items done. Smile

I can’t wait to experiment more with the color treatment I did below.  I’ve seen things similar done elsewhere and I think it’ll be fun.

Can you tell the difference in the amount of ornaments from 2 weeks ago?  The kids have really been working hard on their service and I’m SO proud of them!

It sounds like you had SUCH a mixed week--sickness and soreness, but also awesome family time. I LOVE the picture of Sylvie with the frosting over her cookie--she's got perfect decorating form, it seems. And I love the ones of your kids by the tree.
