OH! I forgot something HUGE!!

So, I'm reading over my week in review from last week and suddenly realize I missed the coolest thing of all!!  The BABY DEER!!  Here's the story from my Mom's point of view.....(This all took place on Tuesday of last week.)

"Well, here's a fun story about me and Corben.  Yesterday Corben had a doctor's appointment and, since it was nearby, I took my lunch break and went over to hang out and help Christy with the little girls.  When we left Christy headed her way and I headed mine.  Just a short way down the road, I saw a very, very tiny deer on the edge of the road...but in the road.  It was having quite some difficulty standing.  I couldn't pull over due to traffic and because it was a curve so I pulled up about 1/8th of a mile to a safe place. There was another car there and the lady said she had called animal control.  As I looked towards the fawn, I saw it wobble and fall further out in the road.  I started doing my version of a run down the road waving my umbrella towards approaching cars to get them to change lanes.  My heart just about stopped when one car managed to straddle the little deer.  When I finally reached it I thought it had been critically injured but realized what I was seeing was the umbilical chord.  This fawn was less than one hour old and was still wet from the birthing process.  A construction truck stopped to deter traffic and one of the men carried the fawn up a hill and back into the woods.  Though covered in pine needles, the hill was quite slippery (as we found out when the man fell coming down it) so I did not go up it initially.  As he drove away, he mentioned there was another baby that had walked off deeper into the woods.  This little fawn was determined to head back down to the road 4419_1178743187369_1191833187_518536_5356974_n though.  I picked it up (see photo) and carried it back into the woods.  As she tried to steady herself on her long, skinny legs she began licking my pants leg and looked up at me as if to say, "Are you my mother?"  You know I wanted to take her home myself!  As I was "running" down the road initially , Christy saw me and pulled over up the road running down with Corben to see what was going on.  About that time the Animal Control officer showed up.  As we talked about the possibilities of what happened to the mother (no sign of her) I mentioned the other baby.  The officer said the mother must have gotten injured because she wouldn't leave them live this (freshly born) otherwise.  She said she was going to search the woods to try and find the other one because it did not have much of a chance at this point.  I asked if more was better in this kind of a search and she said "Sure!"  Christy needed to head out but Corben stayed with me and together our search part of four (me, Corben, the lady who called animal control, and the officer) search the woods carefully.  After about 45 minutes we got a call from the lady indicating the 2nd fawn had been located.  The picture of Corben is with the 2nd one whon1191833187_518537_7936825 was obviously the 1st born of the two.  The officer was going to feed them goats milk that night and turn them over to a woman who has 80 acres set aside for rescued baby deer.  She cares for them until they can feed themselves and then gradually weans them off of human contact.  Eventually they join other rescued deer on the protected property.  Anyway, it was a great experience for Corben and me and I thought you would enjoy the pictures.  Take care."

Pretty neat, huh!!  It was such an exciting thing for Corben to get to be a part of.  I'm glad we were there!!

I'm not sure why, but I get really choked up thinking about Cindy and Corben going to look for a little lost motherless deer. What a sweet story.
